Law, history and art !

Last week, Cora Fitzsimons (Managing Partner) and Michael Corrigan (Partner) were delighted to attend the opening of the new Chief State Solicitor’s Office by Taoiseach Micheál Martin. He was joined by Attorney General, Rossa Fanning, and the Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.

In her opening speech, Chief State Solicitor Maria Browne drew attention to a painting on the stage depicting Michael A. Corrigan who founded the firm in 1906, and who became Ireland’s first Chief State Solicitor. The painting was based on a photograph from 1923 and shows Michael in the ruins of his home in Rathmines following its destruction by anti-Treaty forces. Michael A. Corrigan went on to serve as Chief State Solicitor for 26 years.

As the firm celebrates 120 years, we believe the values that Michael A. Corrigan embodied then, and that Maria Browne referred to in her speech: of constancy and quiet responsibility, are ones we still strive for now, and for the next century.

Pictured below are Michael Corrigan with painting’s creator, Mick O’Dea.
